The ‘Steam’roller printing event

What I hadn’t realised was that this is the first time this event has been conducted in New Zealand.

The roller we used is a diesel. When the Museum bought it, some time ago, it was out at Massey. They drove it down the motorway to Western Springs at 2km an hour!
It was built in 1925. Would they ever have imagined it would one day be rolling over a load of lino cuts?

Here are some photos of the event:

Inking up

Laying out the plates/lino cuts

You can see the roller in the background all lined up and ready.

Laying the paper, carpet underlay and then carpet to protect the paper, as well as soften and spread the pressure.

Over it goes.

The best bit: Peeling off the paper.

Doesn’t it look amazing?!
